Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) is an exercise that involves tensing and relaxing targeted muscle groups, which can bring physical and mental relief.

This relaxation technique relieves tension by actively and directly working with the physical body first. As a natural effect, when our bodies relax, so can our minds.

What symptoms and conditions do PMR help with?

  • PTSD

  • Sexual trauma

  • Anxiety

  • Stress

  • Depression

  • Insomnia and other sleep disturbances

  • Tension

  • Overwhelm

  • Migraines

  • Very active minds

Read research here and here about how PMR helps with some of the above experiences.

Below is a progressive muscle relaxation recording. I first explain the process, and then guide you through the exercise focusing on one muscle group at a time.
